We all have times when our creativity level is low. When an idea is needed, yet none are there. It could be because we’re tired, or distracted or just plain uninspired.
What do you do when your juice is low?
Ian Laurie wrote a post recently asking for suggestions to get ideas of what to write about on his blog.
Some ideas to break out of a creative slump:
- Daydream
- Talk a walk
- Spend a few minutes searching/stumbling upon other sites for something that is interesting or needs more explanation. (limit your time surfing!)
- Wander around the bookstore or library for ideas
- Doodle
- Think about a problem that you recently solved and see if the solution applies to others
- Silence. Don’t contribute until something moves you (caution – being silent for too long can be detrimental)
- Look for old solutions that need updating and re-think, re-do them
- Use a creativity tool / whack pack
- Invent a typical customer/reader and imagine one of their problems that you can solve
- Phone a friend (again, limit your time)
Do you have any more ideas?
P.S. The reason this list has only 11 ways is that I ran out of ideas about how to get creative – I suspect this list can be much longer.
