I found this on a website that wanted to sell me something. They wanted me to buy, but I could not because their use of the English language was  so bad.

Can you see what I saw?

Read it again if you haven’t found it yet.

Proofreading is important. Having another set of eyes – or even several sets – review what you’ve done before the world sees it. It’ll save you from embarrassing things like spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes.

Did you see the episode of The Apprentice last year when they spelled Liza Minnelli’s name wrong? Somehow Liza’s name was spelled wrong on both the poster and place cards for all the guests at an exclusive dinner. Luckily it was caught in time and the printer re-printed everything at a big discount.

When you order invitations from Poly Graphics we have at least two people review what you have written. We help you avoid embarrassment by looking for spelling, grammar, and usage errors. Even the one made above.

Did you find the problem?  There’s a big hint below.

4 Essential Parts of an Invitation

“You’re Invited” or “Your Invited”?

Aug 17

This drives me crazy.

The only time you should use “Your Invited” is when you are putting another word right after Invited that describes who you have invited, like “Your Invited Guests”, or “Your Invited Friends”. Here, your invited describes the guests, or describes the friends.

You’re Invited means You Are Invited.

Your Invited, by itself, means nothing – Your Invited What?

You Are Invited to use You’re Invited on any informal invitation at Poly Graphics.

If you enter your wording as Your Invited on your online order form at Poly Graphics, we will correct it to say You’re Invited

In short, don’t use Your Invited  on your invitation.

Thanks,

Bob

P.S. That felt good to get that out

P.P.S. Yes, your wording is proofread when you order from Poly Graphics. We proofread it once when we prepare your draft, and we proofread it again after it is printed. Double-proofed!

Your invitation order from Poly Graphics gets the utmost attention by a designer.

A designer who reads your wording & looks for anything that is missing.

A designer that reviews your text for spelling and omissions.

A designer that formats your wording in the font that you select on the design that you have chosen so that it looks the very best that it can.

A designer that takes the time to make your invitation wonderful.

But we may have different ideas of what “wonderful” means.

Your order will be carefully drafted, then placed on a personalized page where you can review what we’ve done.

So if you don’t like what our designer has created, let us know. We’ll change it until you like it*.

There is no automatic, machine generated drafting process at Poly Graphics. And we like it that way. We hope you like it that way too.

Bob

* We will work with you on your draft until you like it – which means several versions of your wording and graphics. Normally there is no extra charge for preparing drafts, but we may ask for an additional design fee if we prepare an unreasonable amount of drafts and no conclusion is in sight. We’re here to serve you, but we need to feed our kids.

Even though we proofread every order, check for grammar errors, check for print quality, and double count envelopes, we still make mistakes sometimes.

Invitation for a shopping party - Mall Party Invitation

The party invitation should have said “Beth” not “Bet”.

And we shipped the invitations to the customer. Yikes!

As Poly Graphics always does, we admit our mistake and fix it as quickly as possible. Luckily there was enough time for the corrected invitations to arrive and be delivered to guests before the RSVP date got too close.

We’re human, we make mistakes, but we admit them, fix them, and move on.

Try us, we’ll do our best to get your right the first time!

My sister knows that I like variety in my tea (varie-tea ? :) )

So she gave me a bag of Beverly Healthy Flower Tea from Malaysia. It is described as “Cooling Flower Tea” and on the back of the bag it gives instructions for how to prepare the tea and benefits (all in uppercase!)

- HOW TO MAKE BEVERLY HEALTHY FLOWER TEA

  1. CUT AND POUR INTO CUP
  2. ADD 250ML BOILED WATER THEN COVER
  3. WAIT FOR 3 MINUTES THEN READY TO SERVED
  4. ADD ROCK CANDY AND REPEAT SAME THINGS FOR 2 TIMES
  5. DRINK HOT OR COLD (ICE OR CHILL)

- BEVERLY’S HEALTHY FLOWER TEA IS PRODUCED IN HYGIENCE MODERN TECHNOLOGY, IT KEEPS THE THIRSTY AWAY, HELP TO MAINTAIN HEALTH OF YOURS AND YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS.

I’m so glad that they used hygience modern technology!

And wow, I really want to keep the thirsty away – this is MY tea!!

For the new year, I bet everyone wants to maintain health of yours.

Lesson learned: Hire the best translator you can find. And proofread, proofread, proofread!

At Poly Graphics we have graphic designers work on your order.

Our designers place your text, size the graphics, and color the design to your specifications.

It’s not a computer that centers your text. You don’t have to be the person that places everything where you’d like it. We will happily take your instructions for layout, but they are not needed. The Poly Graphics designer does the work for you.

We also proofread your invitation wording. We look for common grammar errors, spelling, punctuation, and extra spacing that you may have accidentally included when your wording was entered on our order form. If we find something questionable, we’ll let you know. You get personal service with every order you place with Poly Graphics.

Not only do we have a designer giving you personal attention when you order something from Poly Graphics, but we also print a draft copy of your order to be used to proofread the actual printed product. We look again for questionable grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but we also check the colors as well as the position of the text and graphics. Then we look to make sure the printer printed what we thought it should have. There are many checks that your order goes through before Poly Graphics sends it to you.

I hope this gives you an appreciation for the care that is put into every order we receive.

Thanks for letting Poly Graphics be a part of your celebration.
